How Often to Rotate Tires
August 17, 2021

Taking care of your vehicle is a key factor in extending the lifetime of your vehicle, follow these tips and follow service intervals in your owner’s manual to protect against major repairs or unexpected failures. Remember, proper vehicle maintenance:

  • Saves you money in the long run
  • Improves your safety and the safety of your passengers.
  • Retains manufacturer warranties
  • Increases vehicle life
  • Decreases the likelihood of an unexpected automotive repair

So how often should you rotate your tires?

A tire rotation maximizes tire life by swapping the position of each tire on your vehicle. This is done because your vehicle doesn’t distribute an equal amount of stress on each tire. By switching front and rear tires, you keep tread wear even. By doing this you will extend the lifetime of your tires which in the long run saves you money.

Rotation patterns vary depending on your vehicle and tires. You should rotate your tires based on the recommendation of your vehicle’s manufacturer or every 5000 miles. Rotating tires regularly means you won’t have to worry about finding replacements at different intervals or contending with a performance decrease because your tires don’t match in treadwear.

If your tires wear evenly, your car will remain balanced. It can actually be dangerous to have unbalanced tires. If you have a front-wheel-drive car this could result in the front tires having significantly less tread than your rear tires which can make the vehicle more difficult to control in an emergency (especially if the roads are wet). This is just one example, different cars will distribute weight differently depending on the kind of cars and tires.
